Salutation to Śiva who is with Umā, with his gaṇas and with his sons; to the Lord of Nature and Spirit, the cause of creation, continuance and end.
Soma here is sa-Umā, “with Umā”. The verse bows to the whole household of Kailāsa at once — Śiva, Pārvatī, Gaṇeśa, Kārttikeya and the gaṇas.
It opens the Vāyavīya Saṃhitā, the last book of the Śiva Purāṇa.
